Momentum distribution of the insulating phases of the extended Bose-Hubbard model

چکیده
We develop two methods to calculate the momentum distribution of the insulating Mott and charge-densitywave phases of the extended Bose-Hubbard model with on-site and nearest-neighbor boson-boson repulsions on d-dimensional hypercubic lattices. First, we construct the random-phase approximation result, which corresponds to the exact solution for the infinite-dimensional limit. Then, we perform a power-series expansion in the hopping t via strong-coupling perturbation theory, to evaluate the momentum distribution in two and three dimensions; we also use the strong-coupling theory to verify the random-phase approximation solution in infinite dimensions. Finally, we briefly discuss possible implications of our results in the context of ultracold dipolar Bose gases with dipole-dipole interactions loaded into optical lattices.

Using entanglement to discern phases in the disordered one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model
We perform a matrix-product-state–based density matrix renormalisation group analysis of the phases for the disordered one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model. For particle densities N/L = 1, 1/2 and 2 we show that it is possible to obtain a full phase diagram using only the entanglement properties, which come for free when performing an update. We confirm the presence of Mott insulating, superfluid...

We study the extended Bose-Hubbard model describing an ultracold gas of dipolar molecules in an optical lattice, taking into account all on-site and nearest-neighbor interactions, including occupation-dependent tunneling and pair tunneling terms. Using exact diagonalization and the multiscale entanglement renormalization ansatz, we show that these terms can destroy insulating phases and lead to...

Motivated by recent experiments on cold atomic gases in ultrahigh finesse optical cavities, we consider the two-band Bose-Hubbard model coupled to quantum light. Photoexcitation promotes carriers between the bands, and we study the interplay between Mott insulating behavior and superfluidity. The model displays a U(1)xU(1) symmetry which supports the coexistence of Mott insulating and superflui...

We use a combination of numeric and analytic techniques to determine the ground state phase diagram of the Bose–Hubbard Hamiltonian with longer range repulsive interactions. At half filling one finds superfluidity and an insulating solid phase. Depending on the relative sizes of near–neighbor and next near–neighbor interactions, this solid either follows a checkerboard or a striped pattern. In ...

– We investigate the momentum distribution function near the Mott-Hubbard transition in the one-dimensional t1 − t2 Hubbard model (the zig-zag Hubbard chain), with the density-matrix renormalization-group technique. We show that for strong interactions the Mott-Hubbard transition occurs between the metallic-phase and an insulating dimerized phase with incommensurate spin excitations, suggesting...
